BRIJ-SEAL devices are intended to support and seal the wound immediately following cleaning and debridement using standard method of care.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBRIJ-SEAL devices consist of a medical grade polymeric film with medical grade adhesive covering the application surface. To apply, the first liner is removed to expose the adhesive, the device is then positioned over the wound, pressure is applied to set the adhesive, and subsequent liners are removed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEach sterile pouch contains one BRIJ-SEAL device with attached peel liners.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eIndications for Use\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBRIJ-SEAL devices are indicated to assist in closure, support, and to provide a covering for lacerations, wounds, and surgical incisions. Do not apply unused sections of a BRIJ-SEAL device to more than one patient.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eBRIJ-SEAL devices are stored in a sterile package. Only newly opened, sterile devices should be used for application to acute wounds. Do not use if packaging is damaged or was previously opened.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eDo not resterilize BRIJ-SEAL devices, as this may lead to device failure, and sterilization cannot be assured.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eBRIJ-SEAL devices are intended for use on external skin surfaces only. Refer to Contraindications section for additional details.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eBRIJ-SEAL devices can be a choking hazard for young children. Appropriate caution should be observed at all times.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eUse BRIJ-SEAL devices with caution in any patient with a known history of sensitivity to skin adhesives. BRIJ-SEAL devices should be avoided in patients with a known allergy to acrylic adhesives.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eBRIJ-SEAL devices are not intended for use on broken skin for longer than 30 days.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eReport any serious incident that has occurred in relation to the medical device to BRIJ Medical and the health authority in your country.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eInstructions for Use\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eUse of analgesia:\u003c\/strong\u003e The placement of BRIJ-SEAL devices on intact skin should not result in pain. To assess the need for analgesia in minor wounds, the user can gently approximate the wound edges manually and, if there is no discomfort, then BRIJ-SEAL device placement can proceed with the injection of local anesthetic agents or other analgesic methods.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePreparation of the skin for application:\u003c\/strong\u003e The skin surrounding the wound or scar should be clean and dry prior to device application. Because prior use of lotions, moisturizers, oils or some surgical preparation solutions may inhibit adhesion, routine pre-application cleaning with alcohol or another appropriate solution is recommended. Routine cleaning of the skin may not be necessary after adhesive barrier films have been placed and removed in the course of a treatment or surgical procedure, but the user may still wish to consider if removal of residual surgical preparation solution is indicated. If the skin surface is cold, initial adherence strength of the BRIJ-SEAL device may be reduced. Adhesive enhancers are not typically required or recommended, but can be considered in situations where enhanced initial tack may be beneficial. In circumstances where significant hair could interfere with adhesion of the BRIJ-SEAL devices to the skin, hair removal should be performed as directed by the physician. If removal of hair is not possible or desired, an alternative wound closure mechanism is indicated.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePreparation of the wound for closure:\u003c\/strong\u003e BRIJ-SEAL devices should be applied only to wounds or incisions that are clean and free of debris, foreign body, tissue necrosis or active bleeding, in keeping with standard principles of wound care and wound closure. If debris or foreign bodies are present, these should be removed. Non-viable tissue should be debrided. Hemostasis should be achieved by standard means. In wounds that penetrate significantly into the subcutaneous or deeper tissues, that gape or are located in high-tension areas, supportive, deep wound closure should be completed prior to placement of BRIJ-SEAL devices in keeping with standard, accepted wound care principles. The skin of the wound margins should be clean and as dry as possible prior to application of BRIJ-SEAL devices.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePreparation for re-application:\u003c\/strong\u003e If reapplying BRIJ-SEAL devices to a healing wound or scar, existing BRIJ-SEAL devices should be removed according to the section titled Removing and Replacing BRIJ-SEAL devices. Any residual skin adhesive from previous devices or dressings in the application area should be removed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eHandling of the BRIJ-SEAL device:\u003c\/strong\u003e Standard wound handling practices should be employed, including the use of aseptic technique. No special handling precautions are required when applying to closed, intact skin. Open the BRIJ-SEAL device package by peeling back the package tabs. Maintain sterility during unpackaging.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eApplication of BRIJ-SEAL device:\u003c\/strong\u003e For best results, apply the BRIJ-SEAL device immediately following cleaning, debridement, and indicated deep wound closure using standard method of care.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAfter completing suture layers as required, wipe around the incision and make sure it is completely clean and dry. Applying pressure to the wound with a sterile gauze until immediately before device adherence can help minimize fluid or blood accumulation under the device.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf the BRIJ-SEAL device is significantly longer than required for application to a wound, the device may be cut transversely to the appropriate length using sterile scissors. The device should be trimmed to extend past the incision on each end for about 1 inch (2.5 cm) in order to provide a barrier seal. Do not cut the device through the folded end section represented by peel liner 2, as subsequent removal of the liner material may be compromised.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eExpose the adhesive by peeling back the central peel liner #1 using the free end marked with “1s”. The exposed adhesive is now applied over one end of the wound, leaving about a 1 inch overhang. The remainder of the peel liner is removed as the device is adhered to the wound, centering the device so that the edges are equidistant from the incision. Press the device firmly as applied to facilitate optimal adherence. Alternatively, the entire central peel liner #1 can be removed prior to adhering. Use caution to avoid touching or having any exposed adhesive contact gloves, drapes, other areas of the device, or areas of the patient not intended for application, as this may cause device damage or incomplete adherence to the wound area. If inadvertent adherence in one of these ways occurs, discard the BRIJ-SEAL device and apply using a new, non-damaged device.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eExpose peel liner(s) #2 by gently flipping over the unattached end(s) of the device. Grasp the free section of the liner and pull away from the center of the device in the direction of the arrows – pull close and parallel to the skin. If the device was not trimmed, repeat this step for the second liner #2 at the opposite end.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eApply pressure to the device to facilitate adherence to the skin. Direct downward pressure and\/or a rubbing motion from the center toward either end may be employed. Do not rub from the end toward the center, as this may lift up the end of the device or cause the device to adhere to the gloved hand.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRemove the liner #3 by grasping the free tab marked “3” at the end of the device. Pull the tab toward the center of the device and continue in the same direction until the protective cover is fully removed. If the device has not been trimmed and both ends have a free tab “3,” only one of the two tabs need to be grasped and used for removal.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAftercare of BRIJ-SEAL devices:\u003c\/strong\u003e Dressings are not required over the device(s) unless desired to hide the wound or to keep the device(s) from rubbing against body areas or clothing. If dressings or compressive garments are placed over a wound treated with BRIJ-SEAL device(s), tape or the adhesive of the dressing should not make contact with the BRIJ-SEAL device, as the BRIJ-SEAL device may inadvertently become dislodged during dressing removal. Oils, lotions, moisturizers, or dressings with petroleum jelly or other components which may adversely affect device adherence should be avoided, as these also could cause inadvertent early loosening or displacement.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBRIJ-SEAL devices may be exposed to water, as with normal showering if instructed by the treating physician or health care provider, but immersion is not recommended. However, significant exposure of BRIJ-SEAL devices to increased heat, moisture or sweating may cause premature loosening of the device(s), leading to loss of therapeutic effect and necessitating earlier replacement.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe wearer should be instructed to contact the physician immediately if significant skin irritation, blistering or a rash develops at the site of a BRIJ-SEAL device placement. Such a reaction may necessitate BRIJ-SEAL device removal and use of an alternative wound closure or wound support treatment (see Removing and replacing BRIJ-SEAL devices).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSome blood or fluid may accumulate underneath the BRIJ-SEAL device(s). If this occurs and is limited, simple observation is indicated as the fluid should dissipate as moisture vapor is transmitted through the device. If larger collections of fluid are observed, the clinician can replace the device or consider aspiration using a sterile needle and syringe. Such aspiration will break the microbial barrier of the device.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eUse of additional devices with BRIJ-SEAL:\u003c\/strong\u003e Other devices, including support or wound closure devices, which could penetrate or otherwise damage the BRIJ-SEAL device should not be used in conjunction with the BRIJ-SEAL device. Adhesive secondary device use should be considered with caution. If a secondary adhesive device or dressing is removed prior to the desired removal of the BRIJ-SEAL device, then the BRIJ-SEAL device can be displaced with removal, and a new BRIJ-SEAL device should be applied if desired.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eRemoving and replacing BRIJ-SEAL device(s):\u003c\/strong\u003e BRIJ-SEAL devices can be removed by or at the direction of the physician. To remove BRIJ-SEAL device(s), simply grasp a free edge and pull parallel to the wound. Avoid applying excess force to the wound when pulling. Although typically not required, a medical grade adhesive remover can be used to facilitate removal, especially if early device removal is undertaken.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo reapply BRIJ-SEAL devices, the user should follow the instructions (above) for application. BRIJ-SEAL devices should not be reapplied if there is skin irritation, rash or blistering at the site of placement, or if the wearer has developed an allergic reaction at any site.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eSterility\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBRIJ-SEAL devices are provided sterile.
